Evan Chown

Evan Chown is an experienced musician, visual designer, instructor, and instrumental educator with 7+ years of experience based in Norfolk, Virginia. He marched with Jersey Surf World Class Drum and Bugle Crops from 2017-2020 and returned to his home team to join the staff in the summer of 2022. Currently, Evan is the Horn-line Music Coordinator at Ocean Lakes High School.

As an alumnus of Tidewater Community College, he earned his associate’s degree in general studies in preparation for transferring to Old Dominion University for his bachelor’s degree. At ODU, he is currently a Senior studying Music Education under Dr. Tyler Austin and Captain Brian Walden, among other professors. He is currently the principal trumpet in the ODU Wind Ensemble, Monarch Brass Quintet, and other various ensembles.

 

Evan has had the opportunity to teach and assist multiple different ensembles in both instructional and design roles throughout the Hampton Roads area. From 2018-2019 Evan worked with Landstown High school in Virginia Beach, his alma mater, on the visual instructional staff. In the fall of 2021, Evan was chosen to be the lead Visual Coordinator at Ocean Lakes High school, transitioning to the Horn-line Music Coordinator in the fall of 2023. He has also worked with the Indoor Drumline at Ocean Lakes since 2022 as the lead Visual Coordinator. His past accomplishments include multiple best visual and music awards at VMBC and AIA circuit competitions with Ocean Lakes, in addition to serving as the Horn Sergeant at Jersey Surf in 2019.
